Effective January 1, Deputy Chief of Community Standards Steve Dongworth will begin his term as the City of Calgary Fire Chief.

Dongworth, a contributing member of the Calgary Fire Department since 1992, will fill the role currently held by Interim Fire Chief Ken Uzeloc.

“I’m pleased Mr. Dongworth will be leading the Calgary Fire Department as our new fire chief,” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “He has a track record of collaborative leadership and community partnership that will serve Calgarians well.”

Calgary's next Fire Chief has served as a CFD Deputy Chief since 2000 in the facets of Community Standards, Recruitment and Training and as commander of the City of Calgary's Public Safety Communications Centre (911).

Dongworth, born in Plymouth, England, began his career in fire service in the United Kingdom in 1976.
