Thanks to tips from the public, Cochrane RCMP has arrested a man who allegedly stole a police cruiser from the scene of an impaired driving investigation.

Lorenzo Anthony Bearspaw, 25, was arrested for impaired driving near the Stoney Nakoda Casino on Saturday.

While police were dealing with other people and damaged vehicles, they spotted the cruiser that Bearspaw had been restrained in, leaving the scene.

The vehicle was last seen north of the Stoney Casino, travelling northbound on Highway 1X into an undeveloped area.

Bearspaw was arrested on Tuesday night at the Chinook LRT Station without incident.

RCMP say the car was located in a wooded area of the Stoney Nation.

Charges are pending against Bearspaw, but it’s likely he’ll be charged with theft of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and for escaping lawful custody.
