A four-vehicle collision in the southbound lanes of the QEII Highway, between the Didbury and Olds exits, has sent three people to hospital including one patient in serious condition.

According to Stuart Brideaux, EMS Public Education Officer, emergency crews were called to the scene near Township Road 320 shortly before 9:00 a.m.

The driver of a severely damaged car, a woman in her 30s, was extricated from the wreckage and transported to the Foothills Medical Centre by ground ambulance in serious condition with multiple traumatic injuries.

A female passenger who had been riding in the front seat of the car, also in her 30s, suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital in stable condition.

An occupant of a second vehicle, a woman of undisclosed age, was taken to the Didsbury Hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition.

The drivers of the third and fourth vehicles were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

A STARS Air Ambulance crew was requested bu the helicopter was unable to respond to the crash scene due to unfavourable weather conditions.

RCMP have launched an investigation into the crash. According to 511 Alberta, the southbound lanes of the highway reopened to traffic at approximately 10:40 a.m.
