People living on the Tsuu T’ina Nation are being warned to not drink tap water after a water main break disrupted service to all homes and buildings on the reserve southeast of Bullhead Road.

Band spokesman Peter Manywounds says about 55 homes and offices are affected and he says it’s unclear when the break will be fixed.

Officials found out about the water main break at about 11 Monday morning but it took crews until about 2 p.m. Monday to find it.  Repairs were done overnight and then crews pressure tested the pipe at about 3 o’clock Tuesday morning but they found more leaks.

Manywounds says the warm weather is a plus for them right now because it will make it easier for crews to pour new concrete stabilizer blocks around the pipe.

It’s hoped the pipe will be fixed by Tuesday evening but once water service is restored residents are being asked to only use water for essential functions.

Tsuu T’ina Nation employees will be going to each home to conduct water testing once the pipe is repaired.
