Several family friendly New Year's Eve events are on tap for Calgarians to come out and celebrate the end of 2012 and the start of 2013.

The City is hosting three all age events including a pool party, dance party and New Year’s countdown bash at Olympic Plaza.

City events:

  • Family Pool Party ~ 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

    Village Square Leisure Centre
    2623 56 St. N.E.
    Regular admission

    A DJ will be pumping fresh tunes while families enjoy the wave pool, inflatable toys, arts, crafts, treats, prizes and much more. 
  • Dance Party & kids countdown ~ 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

    Municipal Atrium (City Hall)
    Kids countdown at 9 p.m.
    Free admission

    Calgarians are encouraged to dress in white, neon or anything that ‘glows’. The indoor atrium will host a number of activities including games, crafts, power bikes that create lighting effects, fire dancers, a photo booth and of course- dancing!
     
  • New Year’s Bash at Olympic Plaza ~ 9:30 p.m. to 12:15 a.m.

    Performances by Johnny Reid, Serena Ryder, Victoria Duffield and Massari and Mayor Naheed Nenshi will lead the crowd in the countdown to welcome 2013.
    The celebration will end with fireworks at midnight from the Municipal Building.
    (There will be no public skating at the Olympic Plaza for the New Year’s events.)

Calgary Zoo:

  • Zoo Year’s Eve ~ 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

    View Zoolights and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa around one of the fire pits.
    An animal friendly fireworks display is set for 8:30.
    Tickets must be pre-purchased and are available on the Zoo’s website or by calling 403-232-9300.

Calgary transit will be free on New Year’s Eve after 6:00 p.m.
