Calgary fire crews were dispatched to the Bow River for a water rescue after someone was reportedly spotted in the water near the Langevin Bridge.

The call came in just after 4:00 p.m. Thursday and an extensive search of the shoreline was launched.

HAWCS was also called in to search from the air using thermal imaging and fire officials say they received two reports from witnesses who saw someone in the water on the north side of the bridge.

“We had reports about an hour ago about somebody possibly being in the water on the river here so we had our crews respond down here and have a look around. Really pleased to say, after an exhaustive search we haven’t found anybody in the water,” said Paul Leblanc CFD District Chief.

Leblanc says they are quite confident that no one was in the water.

"There's just information that's passed on and we have to discern that information and have to make a judgement call based on that decision," said Leblanc.

He says they will remain on scene for a while just to make sure.

Officials say that the water is running fast and that the ice shelves can be dangerous and they are warning the public to stay away from the water's edge.
