Canmore's Erin Morgan is one of Canada's top junior judokas and is our CTV Calgary Athlete of the Week.

This summer, the 20-year-old U of C kinesiology student went four and zero at the Junior Nationals and realized a lifelong dream to be a Canadian champion.

“It’s a pretty big deal for me that’s something I’ve wanted since I started competing it was always kind of my highest goal was winning nationals and going to worlds,” said Morgan.  “My mom cried my sister cried and my mom told me that it was like the highlight of her year and my dad was really just happy.”

That victory earned her a spot in the junior worlds in Slovenia this week.

Morgan’s proud parents, Scott and Patti, are the driving force behind the Canmore Judo Club.

“I like fighting. I like that it’s an individual sport so that if you lose it’s completely on you there's no one else you can blame but then if you win, you know it’s completely on you so  no one can take credit because its only you on the mat,” said Morgan.

For her perseverance and championship attitude, Erin Morgan is the CTV Calgary Athlete of the Week.
