Police say they’ve now arrested and charged a man who attacked a taxi driver in Calgary last summer, leaving him with significant injuries to his face.

At about 12:30 a.m. on August 10, 2014, a taxi driver picked up a far in the area of Woodpark Boulevard S.W. and took the passenger to Aboyne Way N.E.

The man paid for his fare, but as he was waiting for the driver to supply him with change, he suddenly attacked the driver, hitting him several times in the face.

The suspect fled as the driver began to draw attention by honking his cab’s horn. At no point during the altercation was an robbery attempt made.

Police released a photo on April 15, 2015, to try and track down the suspect and, in early May, they arrested 26-year-old Kenton Charles Louis Butters without incident at a home in northeast Calgary.

He is charged with assault causing bodily harm and will next appear in court on May 28.
