Calgary Police have a man in custody in connection with the shooting death of a 27-year-old woman and have charged him with second degree murder.

Emergency crews were called out to a residence in the 0-100 block of Dover Meadow Close S.E. at about 630 a.m. on Friday, August 31, for several reports of possible gunshots.

When they arrived, they found the body of a deceased woman in the garage.

The young woman was identified as Amy Sands, the daughter of Okotoks town councillor Ed Sands and his wife Debbie.

Detectives believe there may have been as many as eight people in the garage at the time of the shooting and say about half have come forward for interviews with investigators.

Police say they believe that the shooting was a targeted attack but that the victim was not the likely target.

They believe that an altercation occured in the garage and that a person left and then returned  a short time later and commited the shooting.

Jesse George Hill, 26, was arrested by the Tactital Team near 17 Ave. and 26  St S.E. and is charged with second degree murder.

Investigators are still looking for the weapon and say the shooting is not gang related.

Hill will appear in court on Thursday.
