Calgary police continue to investigate a shooting that claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman on Friday and say that she was likely not the target.

Emergency crews were called out to a residence in the 0-100 block of Dover Meadow Close S.E. at about 630 a.m. on Friday for several reports of possible gunshots.

When they arrived, they found the body of a deceased woman in the garage.

The young woman was identified as Amy Sands, the daughter of Okotoks town councillor Ed Sands and his wife Debbie.

Detectives believe there may have been as many as eight people in the garage at the time of the shooting and say about half have come forward for interviews with investigators.

Police say they believe that the shooting was a targeted attack but that the victim was not the likely target.

Neighbours say the house has been a problem for some time with people coming and going at all hours.

Police say the activities within the house have been on their radar for some time.

“It is activity associated to organized crime,” says CPS’s Kevin Brookwell.  “I don't want to get into exactly what it is.”

Investigators are urging the remaining witnesses to come forward and are asking anyone with information to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
