Calgary police are investigating a scene in the Beltline after a man was found suffering from severe head injuries.

At around 7 p.m. on Tuesday night, police were called to the area of 16 Ave. and 11 St. S.E.

Upon arrival they found a man lying unconscious on the ground.

Police say the victim suffered serious injuries to one ear, with it nearly being ripped off.

He was transported to hospital for treatment.

Police say the man is stable in hospital. “With the beating he received severe head injuries. The hospital had to induce a coma until they get the swelling down in the brain and head area,” says Acting Sergeant Mark Atkin with the Calgary Police Service.

Neighbours around the scene say they saw a group of people watching the assault and leave the scene shortly afterwards.

Police have a rough description of a suspect believed to be spotted at the scene.

He is described as a native male, 6’7”, with a muscular build. He was seen wearing a white tank top.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
