Tom Bories and Holli Asher say their trip to Foremost from Calgary took a few unexpected turns but they are safe and sound at home..

According to police, 74-year-old Holli Asher and 64-year-old Thomas Bories recently returned to Calgary following a vacation.

On Tuesday night, the couple retrieved their GMC Sierra from a friend’s home in the southwest Calgary neighbourhood of Richmond. The pair left the home and police believe they were starting their 340 kilometre journey to Foremost in the southeast corner of the province.

Asher and Bories confirm to CTV that they left Calgary heading east but travelled too far and became lost somewhere in Saskatchewan. The couple ran out of gas twice and spent one night in their truck.

"[I was] fully thinking in the back of my mind I was headed the right direction, ignoring my compass, which is in the mirror of my truck," said Bories. "We just went off and neither her [or] I are reading the townships or the towns going by and we drove all night."

Asher said the support was very heartfelt. "It warmed both of our hearts to know that so many people were trying to help us."

The duo corrected their route and spent their second night in a hotel in Medicine Hat before a Thursday afternoon of shopping in Lethbridge.

Bories tells CTV that he had no idea anyone was looking for him. The pair has been in touch with the local RCMP detachment.
