A respected professor at Mount Royal University in Calgary is being charged after a woman complained to a court judge that she was being held against her will.
John Winterdyk, who is with MRU’s Justice Studies department, has been charged with forcible confinement after a staff member says he was holding her against her will.
The woman originally complained to police about the incident, but when no charge came from their investigation, she filed a private complaint.
A judge who heard the complaint agreed with the victim and that prompted the Crown to charge Winterdyk.
MRU, meanwhile, is standing behind the accused professor calling it nothing more than an allegation.
Winterdyk appears in court on August 5.
