A tip from the public has led police to seize a large amount of marijuana from a home in northeast Calgary.

An integrated team of RCMP and Calgary Police Service members executed warrants on September 25 on a home on Whiteview Close N.E.

Inside, they found a total of 749 plants, valued at over $930,000 if sold on the street.

Investigators also found that the electrical system was bypassed so the owners were able to steal an undetermined amount of power.

The owners also modified the furnace and hot water tank to supply the plants with carbon dioxide.

City officials have inspected the building and have deemed it unsafe for habitation.

Cpl. Lee Brachmann, part of the investigation team, is thankful for the anonymous tip.

“All it takes is one tip to help us eliminate a grow op and the potential harm they can cause our communities. We encourage the public to continue reporting suspicious activity.”
