The newest stop on the northwest Calgary LRT line is now running.

Trains began on the line from Tuscany Station at 5:30 a.m.

The station will serve the 40,000 residents of Tuscany, Rocky Ridge, and Royal Oak, where it’s estimated that about 10,000 will use the line on a daily basis.

It’s the 45th station in the system and is located 2.5 km west of Crowfoot Station.

Calgary Transit says the new station will save the system $1M per year by reducing the need for two shuttle buses.

The cost of the new station was just over $123M, and will be the last new station for a while because of a lack of funding.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi says that if the money was available, priority would be made to continue building the rail link to the airport.

An official ceremony was held on Saturday.
