A Calgary family, forced to rehome their pet, has found a suitable site for their beloved swine.

In June, the Nupoorts received a citation from the City of Calgary informing them they would have to part with Emmy, their one-year-old Julianna mini-pig, as Bylaw Section 27 states ‘No person shall keep Livestock in any area of the City except where the keeping of Livestock is allowed under The City of Calgary Land Use Bylaw’.

The family was given two weeks to remove Emmy from their home in Rosscarrock.  Justin Nupoort issued a plea on his Facebook page looking for a new home for the pig. The post was shared thousands of times and the Nupoorts received numerous offers to house Emmy.

Justin visited several potential homes before selecting the Collins family who live on a ranch west of Cochrane. The Collins were made aware of the Nupoort's situation after seeing Emmy's story on the news and after a number of friends mentioned them in the comments below Justin's Facebook post.

Emmy has adjusted to her new surroundings and the attention she’s receiving from the large family that has no other indoor pets.

“She’s a wonderful little girl,” said Jayena Collins. “Quieter than any dog I’ve ever met.”

Collins says the City of Calgary needs to review its rules as Emmy is definitely not livestock.
