Police are investigating a crash just east of Calgary on Monday morning that claimed the life of a man.

At about 6:00 a.m., emergency crews were called to the scene of a two vehicle crash on Glenmore Trail near Rural Road 283, also known as Rainbow Road.

Police say a minivan, heading northbound, ran a stop sign into the path of a westbound pickup truck.

The driver of the truck was unable to stop and hit the van.

He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

The female driver of the minivan, who is in her 40s, was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police have shut down traffic in the area for their investigation, which is still ongoing.

There is no word on a cause or any charges in the crash.
