A man is in hospital in critical condition after he was involved in a serious two vehicle crash on Deerfoot Trail in southeast Calgary.

At just after midnight, emergency crews were called to the crash in the northbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail near 130 Avenue S.E.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a man in his 60s, was taken to Foothills Hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.

The driver of the other car, a woman in her 20s, fled the scene, leaving her vehicle behind.

She was arrested a short time later at a nearby restaurant.

Traffic was rerouted around the scene as the northbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail were closed between 130 Avenue and Douglasdale Boulevard S.E. for several hours afterwards.

The route reopened shortly after 6 a.m.

Police say they are investigating the crash to determine whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved.
