A 64-year-old man from Medicine Hat was transported to hospital following a Saturday evening crash landing in a cemetery.

According to members of the Medicine Hat Police Service, emergency crews were deployed to the area near Hillside Cemetery at approximately 7:45 p.m. after the Medicine Hat airport tower received a mayday call from a private aircraft approaching the runway

Officers located the damaged Beech Craft Sierra 35 within Hillside Cemetery, a short distance from the Medicine Hat Airport.

The pilot, the lone occupant of the plane, was transported by ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The extent of the damage to the cemetery has not been confirmed. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the crash.
