A man who was killed in a shooting in the Whitehorn area on Monday morning has been formally identified by the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office as 25-year-old Boutrus Osman Khalfan and police believe the attack was targeted.

Police were called to the 100 block of Whiteview Road NE at about 3:00 a.m. and found Khalfan lying dead in the street next to a vehicle.

“His death has formally been declared a homicide,” said CPS Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm. “We believe he was standing in the street by himself.”

Investigators believe it was a targeted attack and are working to determine a motive.

“We believe the individuals shot from within the vehicle and drove by the victim,”said Chisholm. “We don’t have people that actually witnessed the actual shooting, there were people nearby.”

So far, police have not identified any suspects or persons of interest in the case.

“We’ve canvassed the area, both from a neighbourhood inquiries perspective and from a video surveillance perspective and we have seized some CCTV from the area,” said Chisholm. “We’ve had people that we know have information about this incident that have been cooperative, we’re still looking for people to come forward that we know have information so it’s crucial that these individuals do come forward to help.”
