Calgary police have concluded their investigation into a violent home invasion on Sunday night, saying that two people severely injured as a result were the targets of a random attack.

At about 11:30 p.m., crews were called to a home in the 0-100 block of Beddington Drive N.E. for reports of a suspicious person seen in the area.

A short time later, there were reports of two people being stabbed inside a home.

Paramedics were called to that location and took the victims, a woman in her mid 30s and a man in his mid 60s, who were in critical condition, to hospital.

Police managed to track the suspect to a nearby park and attempted to arrest him.

The suspect was found in traumatic condition reportedly through his own actions. EMS took him to Foothills Hospital where he later died.

Police now say they have not found any clear motive for the home invasion and the incident appears to be completely random.

With the suspect having died of his injuries, and the manner of his death determined non-criminal, his identity will not be released.
