Police have confirmed the identity of a man found dead in southeast Calgary on Thursday morning and are still investigating the case.

On Thursday, family members identified the victim as Calvin Timothy Brooker, 57.

Police confirmed those details on Friday morning.

At just after 8:00 a.m., police were called to a home in the southeast community of Dover Glen when a passerby found a man’s body in the alley.

Police say that Brooker was likely killed inside his home and his body was moved into the alley behind it.

Investigators also say the death was not random and Brooker knew his attacker.

Inspector Don Coleman with the CPS Major Crimes Unit says they are still interviewing people who had contact with Mr. Brooker prior to his death.

"Investigators are still currently interviewing the people who had last contacts with Mr. Brooker in an attempt to determine what occurred prior to his death yesterday. Nobody is in custody at this time. We have interviewed a number of people yesterday and will continue to interview people today to try and narrow that down."

Coleman says that even though no arrests have been made, there are plenty of suspects in the case and one of those is the man who discovered Brooker's body, another person who lived at the home.

"Anybody who had contact with Mr. Brooker in the hours before his death would be a suspect. This individual would be one. There are others as well, potentially."

Coleman said that the other man is being cooperative with the police investigation so far.

He estimates that Brooker died sometime between midnight and 8:00 a.m. and he was the victim of some sort of violent attack.

"By virtue of the scene itself which is still being processed and by virtue of the condition of the victim it would appear to have been violent in nature. Somebody must have been in that residence who was known to Mr. Brooker and some type of confrontation occurred which ultimately led to his passing."

Brooker's mother, a 98-year-old woman was also questioned by police and Coleman says she is now receiving the supports she needs.

Neighbours told CTV that a 98-year-old woman lives in the home with two middle-aged men; her son and one of his friends.

Nyamar Nhial has lived in the area for a couple of years and says she was shocked to see a large police presence in the community.

"I never seen anything like this in this neighbourhood so it makes me scared," she said. "I saw a guy, they are interviewing him. They get him out from the house and then they were talking to him, they put him in the police car."

An autopsy has been completed, but police are not releasing Brooker's cause of death.

Police also haven’t released any information on any suspects or persons of interest in the case.

The home remains blocked off while officers continue the investigation.

Brooker's death is the 16th homicide in Calgary so far this year.
