A new poll, which asks a number of questions about vaccines and how Albertans view them, is showing some surprising views on the issues.

The poll, released by Mainstreet Technologies, asked a random sample of just under 3,000 people earlier this week a series of questions on vaccination issues.

The results showed that 65 percent of respondents demand that child care facilities in Alberta take appropriate action to bar unvaccinated children from enrolling.

In the case of schools, 31 percent of those polled believe those institutions should refuse entrance to kids who have been unvaccinated.

When it comes to mandatory vaccination throughout the province, 30 percent of people agree that parents should be able to decide whether or not to vaccinate while 32 percent believe mandatory vaccination is of the utmost importance.

The poll also asked about perceptions of vaccines and autism, and found that 21 percent of respondents still believe there is a connection between the neurological disorder and vaccinations, despite the wealth of medical evidence to the contrary.
