Premier Jim Prentice says the province is taking measures to resolve the remaining 2,000 Disaster Recovery Program (DRP) applications related to 2013’s historic flooding in southern Alberta.

On Saturday in High River, Prentice announced nearly $20M in funding for repairs and an increase in the number of temporary caseworkers allotted to the outstanding 2013 DRP cases.

“To date, we’ve seen 10,500 DRP claims from across the province that resulted from the 2013 floods,” said Prentice. “Almost 8,500 of those claims have been resolved. We have made progress.”

The provincial government is set to increase DRP advances up to 90 per cent of the amount of the claim for the applications. Previously, advances were capped at 50 per cent.

“By this summer, the vast majority of the remaining claims will be resolved,” said Prentice. “Only the most difficult and complex files will remain open and, even in those cases, it’s our intent to get those closed as quickly as possible.”

An additional 15 DRP temporary caseworkers will be hired by the province and begin work immediately.
