“Usually at this time of the year, they would be hearing final decisions from us and we were just notifying them that there may be a delay,” says MRU associate vice president of enrollment Phil Warsaba.

The reason behind the change for fall enrollment is the school has yet to decide what courses it will offer and how many students it will accept.

The difficult decisions for the University stem from the provincial budget which cut seven per cent from the school’s operating budget.

MRU also suffered a blow when extra money earmarked for the transition from a college to a university was slashed.

The uncertainty leaves students wondering if the courses they want will even be offered at MRU and it's already caused some to move on to different schools.

“Because of the cuts, I won't get into social work or business,” says current Mount Royal University student Olivia Pon.  “Instead I'm going to be going to SAIT to take some of their business programs.”

On Wednesday, Mountain Royal University posted its registration schedule for the fall semester.  Course will be available for viewing on April 26.   Existing students can register for courses on April 29 while new students have to wait until May 8.

MRU executives are scheduled to meet with Deputy Premier Thomas Lukaszuk, Alberta’s Minister of Enterprise & Advanced Education, next week to talk about the cuts.
