Former Premier Ed Stelmach was honoured at the Legislature on Monday night as his official portrait was unveiled to the public for the first time.

During the ceremony, Stelmach took the time to thank everyone who helped him along in his career and added that he was honoured to join the other Albertans who’ve served the province.

“It’s certainly an emotional time. I say the portrait in its raw beginnings. We asked certain features to be incorporated but when you see it unveiled in dramatic style, it certainly brings back all wonderful memories,” Stelmach said.

The former leader was asked what he thought about the current state of the Conservative Party and he said that he hears many people aren’t happy with the tone of the Legislature.

Stelmach served as Premier from December 2006 to October 2011.
