Calgary police have apprehended one man in connection to the October 2014 stabbing death of Maqsood Ahmed outside of Ahmed’s northeast business.

The suspect, who has not been identified as he has yet to be formally charged, was arrested Wednesday morning at an undisclosed location.

“There were several steps that led to the identification of this individual and obviously his arrest. People coming forward, other techniques that we employ throughout the investigation,” said Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “CCTV footage was part of it for sure.”

The man will face charges of second-degree murder and robbery.

On the evening October 8, 2014, Ahmed and a female employee left his money transfer business in the 4700 block of Westwinds Drive Northeast at the end of the business day. Ahmed was transporting cash and receipts when he was approached by two unknown men. The 55-year-old business owner was stabbed and robbed of his cash.

Ahmed was transported to hospital and succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

According to friends of Ahmed, the father of four relocated his family to Calgary from Pakistan approximately 15 years ago.

The investigation into Ahmed’s death continues and, according to police, additional arrests are expected.

“The investigation is currently ongoing and we’re working with the Crown prosecutors office to determine if and when we have sufficient evidence to charge that individual,” said Staff Sgt. Chisholm. "We've identified a total of four suspects."
