Administrators have already said that the bike lanes will likely stay, but debate is expected to the heated over what Calgary council should do about the controversial project.

A committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday morning to discuss the issues facing the 6.5 kilometre long cycle track.

A report on the $6M project will be submitted at the meeting, detailing the 1.2M cycle trips the network has had since its launch and the myriad of goals that have been reached.

It also details some of the goals that have been missed, such as the aim of increasing business along the tracks and some of the other issues like the traffic delays for drivers.

Council will make the final call on the bike lane project, but administration supports making bike lanes permanent because of the 40 percent increase in cycle trips since the lane was put in place.

The recommendations go to council on December 19.
