RCMP and Calgary police worked together to track down and arrest three suspects in a series of armed robberies at businesses east of the city on the weekend.

RCMP in Strathmore were called to a robbery at the Petro Canada gas station on the Trans-Canada Highway on Saturday at about 9:00 p.m. after two males and a female walked in armed with a rifle and bear spray and demanded cash.

Another robbery at the Husky station was called in a short time later and police say the suspect stole items from the store and then sprayed an employee with bear spray.

Police were able to obtain a description of the vehicle that the offenders used to flee the scene and were soon contacted by RCMP in Gleichen about another robbery in Cluny.

The suspects, who matched the description of those involved in the first two robberies, stole liquor from the store and the made off in a grey GMC Acadia.

Police were able to track the vehicle as it left the area and tried to pull it over on Highway 1 but the driver refused to stop.

A spike belt was deployed and the offenders fled on foot after the vehicle came to a stop in a field.

HAWCS and an RCMP Canine unit helped to locate the suspects, who were taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered from the field.

One of the suspects discharged bear spray at an officer during the arrest. The officer was not seriously injured but was treated for exposure to the spray.
