Police have reopened a section of highway near the community of Beiseker, northeast of Calgary, following a serious crash.

Emergency crews were called out to the crash scene at Highway 9 and Highway 564 at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to RCMP, the driver of a small sedan traveled through a stop sign and his vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a semi truck.

The lone occupant of the car,  a 19-year-old male from Saskatchewan, was transported to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance in critical, life-threatening condition.

The driver of the semi was not injured in the colision.

The area was closed to traffic for several hours to facilitate the removal of debris and a police investigation into the crash.
