After months of recovering in a Regina hospital, a man who was allegedly tortured is now back home with his family in Victoria.

He was greeted at the airport by the loving arms of his mother.

The former Calgary resident is looking forward to getting his life back together, but his recovery is far from over.

The 26-year-old went back to his family in Victoria Monday.

The alleged victim told CTV, "It feels really good, really exciting."

His words are slurred showing just how far his recovery still has to go.

The former Calgary resident has been recovering since April, when he was dropped off at a Regina hospital.

Doctors found him beaten, burned and emaciated.

His family looks onwards and upwards, but his recovery is far from over.

The alleged victim's mother told us, "A lot of rehab, a lot of psychological and emotional counselling. He's going back to college and he'll focus on his art."

Since his story became publicized, he has garnered support from across the country.

Support he says is appreciated, "I just wanna say thank you for all my supporters and I couldn't have done it without them."

And now that support will be felt offline, from his family.

He'll be able to feel it everyday, now that he's back with them

His mother says, "He doesn't need to be institutionalized. He can get better at home. We love him, we support him. He doesn't have to go through this alone."

30-year-old Dustin Paxton is accused of confining and torturing the man.

Paxton makes his next court appearance on Friday.
