The Calgary Police Service is inviting all citizens to take part in a special information event meant to educate citizens on how to be aware of fraud and how to protect themselves.

The session, taking place on Saturday at CrossIron Mills Mall, offers people the chance to speak with representatives from 10 different agencies including:

  • Calgary Police Service Cyber Forensics Unit, Economic Crimes Unit and Crime Prevention Team
  • Electronic Recycling Association
  • Service Alberta Utilities Consumer Advocate, Consumer Investigations Unit and Driver’s Licence Fraud Investigations
  • Better Business Bureau
  • Real Estate Council of Alberta
  • Bank of Canada
  • RCMP
  • Canada Revenue Agency
  • Crime Stoppers
  • Calgary Chinese Community Service Association

People are also invited to bring their old electronic devices to the event on Saturday where they will be able to shred them, free of charge, using the Electronic Recycling Association’s hard drive shredder.

Devices that can be brought to the event include phones, game consoles, music players, stereo equipment, computers, handheld devices and printers.

Booths for the event will be set up in the food court in CrossIron Mall.
