An unidentified woman has succumbed to the injuries she suffered in a Friday afternoon climbing mishap near Lake Louise.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m., RCMP and Parks Canada responded to reports of a death on Mount Temple.

According to members of the Lake Louise RCMP detachment, two people from Calgary were descending the common route when they encountered heavy snowfall and strong wind. A female hiker fell from an undisclosed height and her injuries proved fatal. RCMP believe deteriorating weather conditions likely factored in the fall.

The identity of the deceased has not been released as RCMP attempt to notify the hiker’s next of kin.
