A Calgary court delivered a verdict in the case of a Calgary mother charged with killing two of her newborn babies.
Meredith Borowiec was charged with second-degree murder in connection to the deaths of two infants.
Co-workers contacted police back in 2010, after a baby boy, born to Borowiec, was found alive in a garbage bag in a dumpster outside her northwest townhouse.
They told police that they believed she had been pregnant before but Borowiec insisted she had never given birth.
When police pressed Borowiec about the two previous pregnancies, she admitted she gave birth to two babies alone at home and discarded the bodies in the trash.
Final arguments were presented in the case last Friday and a judge found her guilty of two counts of infanticide instead of second-degree murder on Tuesday.
"Convicted of wilfully killing two newborns. It's a difficult case there were no bodies found and we were going based on the admissions she made to police. He gave a very good judgment," said Crown Prosecutor, Jamie Williams.
Infanticide is an indictable offence and carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.
