Tuesday night, Canmore town council voted to put an end to the town's bunny problem.

The town selected Edmonton's ‘Animal Damage Control' company to round up the bunnies and kill them.

The company plans to use live traps but will euthanize the bunnies with carbon dioxide gas.

Their carcasses will be use to feed carnivores at wildlife rehabilitation centres.

The town also opened the door for the animals to be rescued, saying if anyone has a viable long term plan to house them outside of Canmore they'll turn over the rabbits.

The group lobbying to save the bunnies says it needs to raise over a hundred thousand dollars to care for the rabbits and so far it hasn't raised any money.

Animal Damage Control told CTV it expects to start rounding up and gassing the rabbits before the end of November.

It also says the extermination project will take several years to complete
