The son of a woman killed in Fort Macleod has been charged with her murder.

On Monday, the mother was found dead in her home at around 3:30 p.m.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the 34-year-old's cause of death.

The 17-year-old appeared in court on Wednesday to face second-degree murder charges.

His face showed no emotion as he stood before a judge. He said he understood the charges and did not need them to be read in court.

The 17-year-old will be held at the Calgary Young Offenders Centre.

He needs to find a lawyer before his next court appearance on Monday.

Nobody in the case can be identified because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
