The City of Calgary is hosting a Lights Out family friendly party on Saturday evening as part of the global Earth Hour initiative.
From 7:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., revellers at Olympic Plaza (228 8 Avenue Southeast) are invited to partake in free activities including:
- An LED lantern parade
- Foosball, ping pong and pool tables
- Complimentary hot chocolate
- A dance party with bike powered music and lights (courtesy Open Streets Calgary)
- An Earth Hour photo booth
In observation of Earth Hour, the City of Calgary will minimize its energy consumption by turning off all non-essential lighting in the following buildings:
- Municipal Building and old City Hall
- Whitehorn Multi-Services Centre
- Fire Stations
- Manchester Centre Building E
Earth Hour, organized by the World Wildlife Fund, is a global movement which began in 2007. The initiative aims to bring awareness to climate change concerns.
