Officials say that a CP freight train has derailed at the Alyth Yards on Sunday and a dozen cars have left the track.

Crews were called to the scene at about 12:05 p.m. on Sunday.

CP officials say they activated their emergency response protocols and sent teams to help deal with the issue.

Calgary police were also called to the scene and confirm that two intersections have been closed down as a result.

Officers at the scene determined that there was no risk to the public, so left the investigation in the hands of CP crews.

CP says they are taking the incident very seriously and remain focused on safety as they continue to work to clear the scene.

More to come.
