The CPR is now demolishing the shattered remains of the Bonnybrook rail bridge, several weeks after a section of the span collapsed, nearly sending several rail cars into the Bow River.

Back on June 27, the bridge began to sag because the lower supports of the bridge failed due to flooding a week earlier.

A train with several cars filled with dangerous material derailed as they were crossing the bridge.

Those cars were carefully removed in an elaborate operation under the watch of environment officers.

Not a drop of dangerous material made it into the water, they say.

Two cranes are now being used to carefully remove the steel spans and make sure that no other pieces fall into the water.

The process could take several weeks.

There is no information on if the bridge will be rebuilt.
