A Calgary restaurant is being forced to cancel its annual Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless.

Pat and Mike Hatzistamatis have been offering a free Thanksgiving dinner to the city's homeless since 1991 just a year after they first opened Mykonos restaurant.

But this year Mykonos is cancelling because Mike Hatzistamatis is too sick.

Its only the second time the restaurant has cancelled its Thanksgiving meal, the other time was in 2005 when the family lost their son Tony to Leukemia.

Fortunately local Calgarian Alfred Balm has offered to sponsor Sunday turkey dinner at the Drop-in Centre.

But officials are still hoping someone will sponsor Monday's dinner as well.

In the past about the one-thousand homeless ate at the Mykonos Thanksgiving dinner.

For more information on sponsoring a dinner, you can contact Mark Powers at the Drop-in Centre at 403-699-8272 or email markp@thedi.ca.
