A recorded interview with a Calgary father was made public on Thursday in which he explains what happened on the day his infant son died.

Jamie Dorey, 32, is on trial for manslaughter in connection with the death of his two-month-old son four years ago.

Bryson Dorey-Fox was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in August of 2009 from his northwest home and died two days later.

A week after the baby’s’ death, Dorey reenacted what happened that day for police.

In the 2009 interview with police, Dorey clearly states that he didn't think the baby needed medical attention and that he didn't think it was severe enough to warrant a trip to the hospital.

He tells the officer he left his son on the couch, just steps from where the bassinette was, and quickly went to the washroom. He says that while he was in the washroom, he heard two loud thuds, just seconds apart, and came out to find his baby son on the floor.

In the interview, Dorey says there is only one explanation for the incident and that a jealous dog, that finally had her chance to get close to the baby, must have knocked him off the couch.

He says the injuries would be where baby Bryson collided with the coffee table.

Dorey was the only one home when his son Bryson was injured.

His former common-law wife and the baby’s mother was in court on Thursday to testify but the case was delayed until Monday because of new information.
