Calgary firefighters used heavy equipment to knock down a fire in a composting pile at a city landfill Tuesday night.

The blaze at Shepard Landfill broke out around 8 p.m.

Firefighters said no one was in danger and heavy equipment was brought in to help.

Once the source of the fire was exposed, it was extinguished.

Crews remained on scene for some time to monitor the scene.
