Fans flocked to the Saddledome on Sunday night to end the hockey drought Calgary has been under for nearly four months.

Tens of thousands of faithful fans filled the seats – a complete sell out on the opening home game of the 2012-2013 season.

While it may not have been the outcome they were hoping for, losing 4-1 to the Sharks, many fans said it was great to have the game back on in the city.

Calgary had the lead in the first period from a goal by Lee Stempniak, but the Sharks’ Patrick Marleau and Martin Havlat answer back with Marleau netting two to Havlat’s one.

Dan Boyle of the Sharks also scored one before the night was through.

The Flames will play the Anaheim Ducks on Monday night.

The Ducks are coming off a win against Vancouver on Saturday night.
