The trial for a Calgary woman accused of tampering with food at a southwest grocery store started on Monday.

Tatyana Granada  is charged with mischief and trespassing.

The charges were laid after metal pins were found in bakery items at the Co-op grocery store in Oakridge in March 2010.

The incident sparked fear in Calgary and consumers were questioning food safety.

A couple copycat cases surfaced at other grocery stores following the incident.

Granada denies any involvement in the food tampering and has been out on bail while she waited for her trial.
