Neil Bantleman, a former Calgary teacher, will have to spend another 30 days in jail in Jakarta as an sexual assault investigation progresses.
Bantleman, 45, along with a teaching assistant, were both arrested by Indonesian authorities investigating a possible case of sexual assault at the Jakarta International School where they taught.
Bantleman had been there for the past six years.
Police have not formally charged him with anything so far, and he maintains that he is innocent.
Guy Bantleman, Neil’s brother in Toronto, says the Canadian government needs to step in.
“The Canadian government needs to stand up and needs to say, ‘you’ve had this individual, you need to show us what you’ve got and you need to make a decision – either arrest him, or release him’.”
He says that Neil can’t be held without charged past 120 days.
