The United Way is teaming up with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Fresh Start Recovery Centre and Neighbourlink Calgary to build and distribute hampers to families affected by the floods.
On Thursday, volunteers loaded Hope Hampers onto a school bus headed for delivery to needy families.
The hampers contain toys, passes to local attractions, and gift certificates for family portraits.
“The hampers are really care packages, they have some comfort items in there. They’ve got passes to Heritage Park, and just notes and other things that will help these families transition back to, sort of, their regular lives and let them know that people are thinking about them,” said Shannon Ryhorchuk, partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers Group.
The organization hopes the hampers will give families a chance to reconnect and do something together.
“To make sure people who've been evacuated from their homes have these wonderful hampers that they can go and reconnect with their family and create some new memories,” said Heather Innes from the United Way of Calgary and Area.
The hampers are being delivered in High River and Bowness.
