The B.C. man labelled a long-term offender for abducting a Sparwood toddler from his home in November 2011 is hoping to have his sentence reduced.

Randall Hopley was sentenced to seven years in prison for abducting Kienan Hebert from his bedroom four years ago.

Hopley held the three-year-old boy for four days before returning him to his home.

On Tuesday, his lawyer, Ken Beatch argued in favour of reducing Hopley's sentence saying that his client should be granted more than three year's credit for time served.

A Crown lawyer argued that would undermine the fundamental purpose of the sentence, which is protecting the public.

The three appellant judges have yet to hand down a decision
