Former Premier Ralph Klein is being moved from hospital to a care facility to continue treatment.

Alberta Health Services released a statement on behalf of the Klein family on Monday afternoon.

AHS officials say Klein will be released from hospital where he is being treated for issues associated with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) and aphasia.

Klein was hospitalized on Friday, September 23, 2011 after he experienced complications from his conditions.

Klein will be moved to a continuing care facility where he can continue to receive care and it is hoped that he will be able to return home soon.

Colleen Klein thanked Alberta Health Services and staff at the Rockyview General Hospital for the outstanding care her husband received during his hospitalization.

The family is asking for privacy at this time.
