The man accused of killing a former RCMP officer near Priddis last week appeared in court in person for the first time on Wednesday.

Previously, Trevor Kloschinsky appeared via a video link.

This time, he appeared in person, locked in full shackles.

He had a noticeable limp and the court psychiatrist said they met briefly.

Crown attorneys say the next step is for Kloschinsky to secure himself a proper lawyer because of the seriousness and complexity of the charge.

Kloschinsky raises dogs on a ranch near Priddis and, on Friday, peace officer Rod Lazenby attended the property because of a noise complaint.

Somehow, during the course of Lazenby’s investigation, an altercation occurred that resulted in Lazenby becoming seriously injured.

He was driven to a police station in Calgary and later died in hospital.

Kloschinsky faces first degree murder charges in the death.

He has been in court every day since his arrest.

Autopsy results have been released, confirming that Lazenby’s death was indeed a homicide.

Police won’t speculate on any other details in the case because they have sent out for other tests.

Once they have those results, they will release further details.

Kloschinsky is expected back in court on Monday.
