The City of Calgary is looking for participants in a 12 month blue cart recycling bin trial which could result in carts with a larger capacity for Calgarians who find the current model to be insufficient for their recycling needs.

“While the standard blue cart works for the majority of Calgary households, we’ve received calls from some households whose blue carts are usually full to the brim before collection day and are looking for ways to make it easier to recycle their extra material,” says City of Calgary Waste Diversion Specialist Parnell Legg.

As many as 200 participants will have their standard 240 litre bin replaced with a 360 litre model. The larger containers are the same width as the current model and are compatible with the City of Calgary’s recycling trucks.

If the trial proves successful, the carts will be made available to Calgarians.
